I've been getting some interesting responses to my article about Iyad Ag Ghaly (see below). His breakaway Islamist tendencies and his dodgy dealings with both AQIM and the Malian government are causes for serious concern. Whether he's out to divide the MNLA and sink the whole autonomous Azawad project, with the blessing of Bamako, or to create an independent Azawad ruled by Sharia law, I don't know. But either way, the situation is very worrying...

    • Jens Hultgren Or perhaps there is some other entity pulling his strings? Do you have the story behind his appointment to Saudi; what happened when he was holding office there; and why he was called back?

    • Christopher A Nolan Could he also be paid off by the US/NATO cabal or Algeria as well as Bamako to justify the AQMI allegations? His is definitely a minority opinion among the people I know.
