Niger rights group appeals for international aid to fight terrorism

Niger’s group for human rights and democracy on Thursday appealed to the West African country’s partners, particularly France and the US, to help it fight terrorism.
The appeal comes three days after an attack against six Saudi tourists and their Malian guide in the west of the country, near the Malian border, left four dead and two wounded.
The injured, including Saudi Prince Zaid Al-Sheikh, were taken to Niamey national hospital.
In a statement issued in Niamey, the human rights group urged foreigners who use dangerous areas in Niger to inform the authorities about their movements for security to be provided to them.
The group ’strongly’ condemned the attack and asked ’the Niger government to take specific measures to tighten the security for the people and goods’, urging it to make all arrangements to identify and arrest the murderers of the tourists and their accomplices.
Niger’s security forces arrested three suspects at the border station located in the village of Yassane, and handed them over to the national gendarmerie for investigations.
