"Rebellions in the south
Apparently, malian History books never mention the southern rebellions looking for autonomy vis-à-vis Central Power, a result of their awareness on their own particular local specificities.
In 1960, at the Dogon Plateau, in the city of Tabi, Mopti region, a rebellion demands autonomy vis-à-vis Bamako.
In 1963, at Morifina, Sikasso region, a rebellion demands autonomy vis-à-vis Bamako. It will happen again in 1992.
In 1967, at Soiba, 4 km from the city of Segou, a rebellion demands autonomy of the Segou region vis-à-vis Bamako. It was repressed with summary executions.
On August the 2nd 1998, a rebellion breaks out at Djoila, in the Koulikoro region. Its inhabitants were unhappy with the central justice and demanded the application of justice based on customary law. This rebellion also had a religious ingredient with the so called "Bare feet", a group of muslims which travel bare feet from town to town proselitizing, being used by local politicians in order to rebel themselves and to present their integrist demands, when the main objective was for Djoila, a small town from the capital's region to have juridical autonomy from Bamako."
