Sign for peace in Libya between Tuareg and Tubu

To the President of the Republic of Niger: A commitment to peace in the Fezzan region and throughout Libya. Why it matters: Having been the most spared region of Libya, for too many months, the Tuareg and Tubu communities have clashed in the south of the country, causing a severely critical humanitarian and social situation. This crisis has witnessed several cease-fires, involving mercenaries from far-off horizons. The cease-fire framework and its protagonists have perplexed the majority of both communities, leaving the causes, implications and objectives incomprehensible in light of historical and recent links between the two populations. For nearly a year, the local population is multiplying initiatives in favor of peace and reconciliation, not only among the Tuareg and Tubu communities, but as well for other communities in the region. Such actions go unnoticed as it is more interesting for media to broadcast news as it relates to violence than for peace. Numerous representatives from the Fezzan region and the rest of Libya have already convened several times to initiate discussions toward a resolution of this conflict that endangers all of West Africa in terms of what is happening in Northern Libya. In Niger, where Tuareg and Tubu concerned about the situation in Libya also reside, a Committee for Peace was established in Agadez in November 2014, with the objective of promoting conflict resolution locally and in neighboring countries. Fighting has not ceased, yet a clear willingness to help resolve this conflict by many Nigerian citizens is visible. With the support and signatures of numerous public and political figures of our countries - including Honorable Goukouni Weddeye, former Head of State of Chad - ministers, diplomats, politicians, entrepreneurs and heads of associations, we, the members of the Tubu and Tuareg communities in Niger, Chad, Libya, Algeria and Mali, convinced that this conflict can be and must be appeased locally, are launching a petition for greater involvement of Niger and its government for mediation involving our various states across Niger. Concretely, this greater involvement of Niger would bring together all the initiatives already undertaken and provide a framework for exchange near the site of the conflict and make for more efficient mediation and swift resolution to this fratricidal conflict. If we sign the petition in thousands, we can convince the President and the Government of Niger to precipitate engagement and with greater scrutiny. You are the ambassadors of this project.
